Proprioceptive Deep Tendon Reflex (P-DTR)

The body is comprised of many parts including joints, bones, organs, muscles and ligaments. This is the "hardware of the body" and is often the target of approach by many therapies. With P-DTR, the focus is on restoring proper communication between the brain and muscles - the "software". If we can enhance the ability of the muscles to engage more effectively - there can also be reductions in pain, improvements in strength and mobility.
In response to trauma or excessive stress, the body may respond to the stress by increasing the level of tension or reduce the activation of muscles. Conseqeuently, this can lead to reduce strength, reduced mobility, and increased pain. Interestingly, even when the pain is gone, these responses may continue to persist leading to further issues down the road. What that means is that injuries from 5-10-20 years ago could be impacting your overall function. These issues can also appear close by or further away from the site of injury. For example, an injury to the neck can lead to problems in the lower back and vice versa.
